Support Civic Theatre

When you contribute to Civic Theatre, you are providing the essential support necessary for Civic to provide 55,000 opportunities on the stage, behind the scenes, in the classroom, and in the audience to community members every year.

Did you know? Civic Theatre generates less than 50% of its income through Mainstage and educational programs. The remaining portion of revenue arrives through the generous support of individuals, foundations, and corporations.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today.

Civic’s mission is to foster a love of theatre through imagination, education, and participation. As Indiana’s largest community theatre and one of the ten largest in the nation, Civic Theatre strives to provide professional-level opportunities on stage, in the audience, in the classroom, and in the community to Central Indiana residents.

A contribution to the general operating support allows Civic to accomplish these goals with adequate administrative and technical support. Gifts designated toward general operating allow Civic to direct donations where they are needed most. Whether donations are used to purchase paint for a set, offset Box Office fees, dry clean costumes, or hire a teaching artist for an outreach program, general operating support goes the furthest to help Civic succeed.

Each season, Civic Theatre produces 5 mainstage shows and 3 children’s productions for a total of 90 performances at the Center for the Performing Arts. By bringing together the best of local and regional theatre professionals with high quality volunteer talent, Civic is able to direct its resources into framing each avocational performer with the most up-to-date theatre techniques, technology, and facilities, effectively minimizing overhead costs while maximizing the participant’s experience.

The heart of Civic’s artistic vision is the creation of magic through theatre. This magic is far greater than the special effects that enhance a production; it inspires every participant by exposing them to new ideas, igniting their imaginations, provoking eye-opening conversations, and connecting individuals of various backgrounds. Help us support this vision by making a tax-deductible donation to Civic Theatre today.

Civic provides a broad range (100+ class offerings) of performing arts workshops for students, ages 18 months and older, with formal written evaluations, advanced levels of study, ties to academic standards, and established professionals as instructors. Civic’s philosophy is to create a superior performer through proper technique and intensive study. This approach promotes meaningful and lasting change in the life of each student, whether or not they pursue a career in the performing arts.

Help Civic continue providing these opportunities to Central Indiana students by making a tax-deductible donation today.

For more information about class offerings, please visit our Classes page, Jr. Civic page, or YAP page.

Civic endeavors to reach underserved community members of every age, ability, and situation through several wide-reaching outreach initiatives.

Storytime with Civic, funded by PNC’s Grow Up Great program, creates opportunities for over 4,000 members of the early childhood community to incorporate theatre into their curriculum, with a particular emphasis on low-income and rural populations across Central Indiana.

Perfect Harmony is an inclusive performance troupe for elementary and middle school performers, executed in partnership with the Special Olympics of Indiana and known for its anti-bullying effect.

To further offer inclusive opportunities, Civic Theatre has provided annual sensory-friendly performances of DR. SEUSS’S THE CAT IN THE HAT since 2014.

Through the support of the Clay Township Board of Trustees and IU Health North, SneakView provides free theatre access to at least 2,500 seniors at the Tarkington annually and sends Civic performers to non-profit nursing homes.

In January 2017, Civic began Stage 2, a partnership with Prevail of Hamilton County that teaches victims of domestic violence and abuse acting techniques in order to build confidence, adopt strong communication techniques, and practice a healthy form of escapism.

Civic has begun offering complimentary tickets and discount classes to members of United Service Organizations and their families.

For the past century, Civic Theatre has helped shape the cultural landscape of Central Indiana by providing artistic opportunities to professional artists, community members, and students of all ages and abilities. Help Civic continue its legacy through a charitable donation to Civic’s newly established protected endowment through the Legacy Fund at Central Indiana Community Foundation.

Donations of $1,000 can be used to purchase a seat in the Tarkington. A seat plaque in the Tarkington is a thoughtful and enduring way to honor a loved one or leave a lasting legacy. For more information, please visit our Name a Seat page.

Invest in your community by supporting local arts. As the primary resident of the Tarkington at the Center for the Performing Arts, Civic Theatre serves over 30,000 audience members and over 20,000 community members through education and outreach each season.
